Best Start Metro LA

Best Start Metro LA (BSMLA) is the pilot community and one of 14 Best Start communities countywide. The partnership became formalized in 2010. To date, there are approximately more than 350 active parents, community residents, agency and government representatives that form the BSMLA partnership.

Best Start Metro LA promotes the vision of empowering parents as leaders in the community. Families themselves build the protective factors, but the neighborhoods and communities in which they live provide the context and opportunities for parents to strengthen parental capacity, promote social connections, and provide concrete supports—to build the protective factors associated with improved child outcomes.

Culture of Respect Campaign

To counter violence, isolation, and feelings of fear and powerlessness, the parents of Best Start Metro LA created the Pledge Towards a Culture of Respect, outlining their personal commitment to transform their communities by transforming themselves. The principles of this community-wide effort are: Mutual Respect, the Positive Upbringing of Children, and Equality for All People.
